Rama Navami which is also called as Sri Rama Navami, is a Hindu festival on which the birth of Lord Rama is celebrated by Hindus. He is the son of King Dasharatha and Queen Kausalya of Ayodhya. Rama is known as the 7th Avatar from the Dashavatara of Vishnu. Date of Rama Navami 2011 is 12 April Tuesday.

On Rama Navami, many temples organizes Akhand Paath of the Ramacharitamanas, Ramayana as well as bhajans, kirtan. They also distribute prasad after the puja and aarti. With this some temples arranges havans also with which chanting of Vedic mantras done continuously. Many devotees keeps fast on Rama Navami for whole day.They eat only fruits and root vegetables of any kind and drinks like tea, coffee, milk, and water.
On Rama Navami, mob of thousand devotees visits temples in Ayodhya (Uttar Pradesh), Bhadrachalam (Andhra Pradesh) and Rameswaram (Tamil Nadu). At Ayodhya thousands of people take a bathe in the holy river Sarayu. At some places Ratha yatras of Lord Rama, his wife Sita, his brother Lakshmana and Hanuman, are taken.
